Chainsaw Man Figure: Why I Wanted to Create Makima, Reze, and Power Figures

Most people who enjoy manga and anime have heard of Tatsuki Fujimoto, whose work inspired the Chainsaw Man figure series discussed in this article. He created Fire Punch, Look Back, and other works, while Chainsaw Man remains my favourite. Fujimoto works primarily as a manga artist, and the later anime adaptation introduced more viewers to his world of devils, desire, and death.

When I first encountered Chainsaw Man, its bold and bloody imagery immediately caught my attention. Denji pulls the cord on his chest, chainsaws extend from his head and arms, and his battles contain almost none of the composure found in traditional hero stories. Devils appear without warning, and a familiar character may disappear on the next page. One moment the characters are eating or talking; shortly afterward, the story moves in a completely different direction.

As I continued reading, more scenes stayed in my mind. Makima calmly directs Public Safety members and controls what Denji can eat and where he can live. Power charges towards a devil as soon as she appears, then confidently pushes the blame onto someone else after causing trouble. Reze enters the phone booth where Denji shelters from the rain, and the café, school, and swimming pool that follow briefly bring an unusual sense of youth into the story.

Chainsaw Man contains many memorable characters, but Makima, Reze, and Power have always been my three favourite female characters. When I later began considering a Chainsaw Man figure series, they were also the first characters I thought of.

Does Makima Love Denji or the Chainsaw Man in Her Mind?

What Makima Gives Denji

Makima already controls the situation when she first meets Denji.

Denji has just merged with Pochita and escaped from the bodies created by the Zombie Devil. He has no home to return to and nobody he can rely on. At that moment, Makima gives him food, work, and an opportunity to join Public Safety.

These things matter deeply to Denji. He previously survived by hunting devils to repay the debt left by his father, and even a normal meal remained difficult to obtain. Makima understands his past and knows how to use the things he wants most to guide him through further missions.

She rarely raises her voice. When Denji performs well, she offers another reward. When he does not know what decision to make, she directly tells him what to do next. Their relationship appears intimate, but Makima keeps every condition in her own hands.

How Her Control Changes the Story

After seeing the later story, I began to understand her earlier actions differently. Makima takes a strong interest in the power of Chainsaw Man and wants to use it to create the world she believes is right. She knows the legends surrounding Chainsaw Man, yet she never seriously tries to understand Denji, the person living inside that body. Denji eventually finds an opportunity to approach her because she has ignored him for so long.

Discussions about Makima often return to one question: does she love Chainsaw Man, or does she love the Chainsaw Man she has imagined? She wants to become close to him, but she also wants to control him. She desires a special relationship and still places the other person inside a position she has arranged.

This is also what repeatedly draws my attention to Makima. She does not need exaggerated movements to maintain her presence. She can sit in an office and say only a few words, and the people around her will already begin changing their actions. Her face shows little emotion, while her decisions directly alter the lives of others.

What I Want the Makima Figure to Preserve

When I think about a Makima figure within this Chainsaw Man figure series, I want to preserve this calmness. Her distinctive eyes, braided hair, and Public Safety uniform make the character recognisable, while the expression on her face determines whether the person in front of us still feels like Makima.

Her lips can carry a slight expression, while her eyes and eyebrows do not need to appear deliberately fierce. She should look composed while standing there. Only after the viewer moves closer should the distance created by her eyes gradually become noticeable.

The Rainy Phone Booth and the Empty School

The atmosphere of Chainsaw Man changes noticeably when Reze appears.

She speaks to Denji inside a phone booth on a rainy day. Denji later begins visiting the café where she works. After learning that he has never attended school, Reze takes him into a school at night. While they swim together in the pool, Public Safety missions and battles with devils seem temporarily far away.

Reze once asks Denji whether he prefers the city mouse or the country mouse.

The city offers plentiful food, along with the constant danger of being killed. Life in the countryside feels less exciting, but it keeps the mouse farther from danger. Coming from Reze, this question carries more weight than ordinary conversation. She has received training and arrives in Tokyo with her own mission. She knows how to approach a target, yet she has never truly experienced normal school life.

Why Reze Changes Direction

When she spends time with Denji at the school, neither of them has experienced an ordinary student’s past. Reze teaches Denji to swim and plays with him around the empty campus. Her mission still exists, but this period also changes something in her own life.

After Reze reveals her identity, the café and swimming pool do not disappear from the story. She already has an opportunity to leave Tokyo, but she eventually changes direction and heads back towards the café where Denji waits. She never reaches it, and Denji never learns that she returned.

The final change in her route is a major reason I remember Reze. She has spent her past carrying out missions assigned by other people, and returning offers her no protection. She still walks back.

What I Want the Reze Figure to Preserve

A Reze figure in this Chainsaw Man figure series needs to preserve the approachable side of her appearance while still suggesting that the character has something left unsaid.

Her short hair makes the outline of her face more visible, and her expression should not appear excessively sweet. A relaxed smile can recall the Reze seen in the café, while her eyes should retain a slight sense of alertness. Her body movement can remain naturally restrained, preventing her from staying permanently in an intense battle pose.

Power and Meowy

Power makes no attempt to wait for cooperation during her first mission with Denji.

After discovering the Sea Cucumber Devil, she charges forward and creates a weapon from her blood to attack it. When Public Safety questions her unauthorised action, she quickly pushes the responsibility onto Denji. This behaviour continues throughout her later life. She exaggerates her abilities and immediately looks for someone else to blame whenever trouble appears.

Power’s relationship with Meowy reveals another side of the character very early. She initially approaches the cat with her own intentions, but after spending time with it, she begins to fear losing it. To rescue Meowy, she deceives Denji and brings him to the Bat Devil. At that time, Denji’s safety does not concern her. The cat remains the only being she cares about.

Life Inside Aki Hayakawa’s Home

After moving into Aki Hayakawa’s home, Power continues to create a great deal of trouble. She refuses to clean and does not want to follow the household rules established by Aki. The three of them eat together, complete missions, and return to the same home each day. Power never formally announces that she has begun trusting anyone. She gradually becomes accustomed to the presence of the other two people in the house.

The fear caused by the Darkness Devil makes it impossible for her to maintain her usual exaggerated behaviour. She becomes afraid of being alone and actively looks for Denji. Those vulnerable moments do not reduce Power’s appeal. Instead, they make many of her earlier boasts more interesting.

Later in the story, she remains afraid of death and continues to fear Makima. She considers obeying the order she has received, but eventually escapes with Denji. Power does not lose her original temperament during this process. She simply begins considering someone other than Meowy when making a decision.

What I Want the Power Figure to Preserve

A Power figure in this Chainsaw Man figure series cannot rely only on her horns, long hair, and unusual pupils to make the character recognisable. Power’s movements need to carry her original personality. When her body appears too upright and controlled, the character begins to look restrained.

I want her chin to sit slightly higher, with a natural distance between her arms and body and a casual quality in her stance. The articulated skeleton allows fans to readjust her pose. Pride, flamboyance, or a sudden moment of quiet can all appear through changes in posture.

Why I Chose These Three Characters

When I thought about creating a Chainsaw Man figure series featuring female characters, I did not begin by listing the most popular names in the series. I thought about the chapters I still returned to after finishing the story.

Makima’s scenes make me reconsider the things she says earlier in the story. The Reze arc leaves me remembering the phone booth, the school, and the meeting that never happens. Power’s story contains a great deal of noisy everyday life, and after the birthday cake appears, those ordinary moments also become difficult to forget.

For this reason, I want to create them as three Chainsaw Man figures while preserving the original differences between each character.

How the Product Format Changes the Experience

A regular Anime figure usually fixes a character in one classic pose, while smaller Chainsaw Man toys or Chainsaw Man figurines also fit naturally inside a display cabinet. The three products I want to create use full silicone bodies, articulated skeletons, and real clothing. Fans can adjust each character’s pose according to the scenes they prefer.

The three products also belong to the adult-oriented Hentai figure category. Their soft bodies and real clothing provide the tactile and dressing experience commonly associated with a Sex Doll. The mini sex doll format makes them easier to keep in a private space and also makes them easier to bring close and store.

Keeping the Three Characters Different

These materials and functions still need to support the differences between the characters. Makima’s expression needs to remain restrained. Reze’s face should preserve the shift between approachability and alertness, while Power needs freer body movement. The three products use the same type of materials, but they should not share the same expression or pose.

My original reason for wanting to create these three figures still comes from the way they appear in the manga. When looking at the products, fans should be able to recall Makima’s eyes while she speaks, Reze appearing in the rain, or Power laughing in a pool of blood. These memories allow the characters to enter a collector’s room.
